Can you upgrade to First Class with a Rail Sale ticket?

Does anyone know if you can upgrade to First Class using Seatfrog (or use any other type of First Class upgrade such as Weekend First where it is still offered) if you have a Standard Class Rail Sale ticket? And do all operators that participate in Seatfrog and/or offer Weekend First allow this, or does it vary by operator?

AIUI you can normally use a Seatfrog upgrade with any type of Standard Class ticket unless the terms and conditions of that particular ticket type say it may not be used with a First Class upgrade.

IIRC the ‘sale’ tickets are no different to Advances, so should be eligible for Seatfrog upgrades.

The only one I'd be wary of is XC, where you can't (unless this has changed recently) upgrade using Weekend First on an Advance, and Rail Sale tickets are Advances. I don't know about Seatfrog and XC, but it shouldn't be different from any other Advance.
