Hi all.

Looking to travel from Cardiff to Edinburgh on 7th March.

I've been keeping an eye on trainline for the cheaper advanced tickets, however they don't seem to be any. Even though it's less than 12 weeks.

I Want yo use the 0753 tfw then 1109 avanti from crewe.

Anyone have any insight why they haven't shown up. If I book via trainpal it's cheaper, but the other Fridays before this date are about £60 cheaper overall for 2 people using the trainpal split tickets. Thanks in advance

Remember there's also now the new direct service... but the way you will go is probably faster!

I did see that. I get free travel on tfw, so it works out cheaper to go via tfw with my 2 mates and split 3 ways to crewe. Then priv for me to edinburgh and two tickets for them.

I was going to try the direct, but less time on train using this route.

For Cardiff to Edinburgh - try the Scotrail site as no commission charged and they do a split. https://www.scotrail.co.uk

Anybody reading this should avoid the TfW site at all costs - just compare the prices they come up with for Cardiff to Edinburgh v Scotrail. Also avoid the Cross Country site.

You could try the forum site as well, that also does splits. And probably better than any Trainline based site.
I just did a check for Cardiff to Edinburgh on Wed 15 January. Looking for the fastest way - which is via the Marches with 1 change at Crewe. Departing CDF at 9.53 to arrive EDB at 16.18. Scotrail works out cheapest - especially as your site wants commission of £14.36 making a total of £102.16 agaist Scotrail £61.40 total (no commission). TFW site wants £227.80 for using the same trains. The direct Cross Country train departing Cardiff at 9.45 is also more expensive and takes longer due to going via Newcastle. See attachments:>

especially as your site
It's not my site but it is the one I would use for split ticketing.

When I check the same trains the forum site (aka Trainsplit) gives a price of £79.72. However, it should also be pointed out that Trainsplit finds a cheaper overall fare than Scotrail, with a price of £57.40 for a departure at 09:23, arriving in Edinburgh at 16:23 - on trains than Scotrail doesn't show at all.

Sorry - I should have said the Rail Forums site.

Good point but that is still about 30 minutes longer on what is already a long journey.

Worth pointing out that something has changed in the last 50 minutes where the site is now showing the same tickets as Trainline (£61.40 + share of saving).
