Hi,

Are there are any ways I can split tickets or save money by say using Finsbury Park rather than King Cross or St.pancras?

Also would I be able to split tickets to save money?

I would like to travel on a weekday in Mid-July though I'm flexible and just want the cheapest route!

In general, split tickets mean that your train must stop at the station where you split tickets.

What tickets have you found so far?

I haven't found any , that's why I'm asking :)

Also be aware that Nottingham services are subject to alteration and disruption from the 20th July until 25th August, most EMT services for London from Nottingham will start at East Midlands Parkway.

Oh I'd be making my journey just before the 20th at the latest!

It's very difficult to know the cheapest tickets between two locations, due to the many combinations that are possible. It is also likely that the cheapest tickets will vary depending on travel day and time, and that they would involve going out of your way signifciantly.

Presuming that you want to travel and return on the same day, then the cheapest off-peak day return as suggested by http://www.trainscanbecheaper.info/ is:

£34.50,
NOTTINGHAM to BURTON ON TRENT
OFF-PEAK DAY Return
£10.50
Route: ANY PERMITTED

BURTON ON TRENT to LONDON
SUPER OFFPEAK Return
£24.00
Route: LM &CONNECTIONS

This is unlikely to be suitable however as:
  1. It would result in journey times several hours longer
  2. The only valid itinerary I can find would involve arriving at Nottingham at 00:21

This is why we need a bit more information! What sort of time do you want to travel? How much waiting are you happy to do in order to save ~£20? Can you commit to fixed trains or do you want flexibility? This post might help you give us the information needed to help you.

Nottingham-Tamworth Anytime day return £15.50
Tamworth-Euston, off peak return valid London Midland only £34

Total £49.50

Super off Peak return Nottingham-ST Pancras £57.50 so you can save £8, however it lakes longer via Tamworth and there is at most one train an hour

There are also some good deals on Megatrain from Nottingham or Derby - search at www.megabus.com for your chosen date. When the journey results come up, those with a grey "EMT" logo are trains (the rest are coaches). You must travel on the booked train only with Megatrain tickets.

On 18 July for example, there are tickets from £5 each way:

http://uk.megabus.com/JourneyResult...inboundPcaCount=0&promotionCode=&withReturn=1

Although sold via Megatrain, these tickets are for regular East Midlands Trains services which run to/from St Pancras.

I do have a railcard so I can make things 1/3 more affordable
I don't mind waiting to save money after all - 20 quid is worth more than 3 hours work at min wage! I'm treasury first so I'll make 50 changes if it'll save me money!!

I don't mind the time- I'll leave the time to get the cheapest train!

In that case the cheapest options are likely to be Advance fares, as you can't get the railcard discount with Megatrain.

If you got to East Coast and search for a Nottingham-London journey, you can - once the results have appeared - click the 'Show slower routes' button on the left hand side, just above the adverts. Click 'East Coast & other TOC connecting services' and then update. This will show you Advance fares offering returns under £20 routed via Grantham. These aren't always cheaper - depending on how long you want to spend in London, it may be cheaper to get Advances on different routes in each direction.

Exept that fares start at £5 each way on megatrain.

If you book an advance journey between Nottingham and London St Pancras direct on the East Midlands trains website it will be £1 cheaper each way, so it's probably worth checking both sites.
