Morning all.

I need to travel from London to Worthing today, from Victoria

Southern are only offering the terminals ticket which I do not need.

The other option is the cheaper day return.

Is this possible to buy, print out at Victoria, but only use the return portion of the ticket?.

I don't know why I have not been offered a Victoria to Worthing ticket.

A bonus question, what is the cheapest way of getting from Worthing to Heathrow Terminal 3 tomorrow afternoon, not using the hideously expensive Heathrow Express?

Thank you all.

Super Off Peak Return from Worthing to London Victoria (route NOT Gatwick Express) priced at £13.95 with railcard discount, might be your cheapest option for one way travel from Central London to Worthing today. Obviously, you just need to bin the outward portion.

Yes – this should be fine.

As I'm sure you know, the Worthing to Victoria portion can no longer be used from the moment you start using the return leg.

I'm sure experts will be along to suggest something cleverer but I shall start the bidding at £15.80 for a Worthing to East Croydon Advance (£12.50) and then East Croydon to Heathrow on Oyster/contactless tapping the pink reader at West Brompton (£3.30).

Just thought of a cheaper way: £14.15 using a Worthing to Feltham Advance (£12.50) and the Feltham to Heathrow connecting bus (which I assume is £1.65). Counter-intuitively I think this can be slightly faster too.

Yes, that's permitted.

Because there isn't a cheap Super Off-Peak Day Return from Victoria, only to Victoria. Southern isn't under any obligation to offer such fares, and they (many years ago, when the cheap "PriceBuster" fares were created) decided not to do so.

This actually impacts the answer to your original question.

The cheapest option might be to buy an Off-Peak Return from somewhere like Hounslow to Worthing. A route "+Any Permitted" ticket would cost £26.50 with a Railcard.

Feltham, perhaps - same price.
Might not work the gates at Victoria, but is valid.

Depends what you want to do by cheapest! (All fares are Railcard prices.)

You could buy a Deptford to Worthing Off-Peak Return for £26.05, use the outbound portion from London Victoria, use the return portion up to East Croydon then use contactless on the X26 bus to Heathrow Central for £1.65, costing you a total of £27.70. :D

Alternatively, if you want a route that won’t take forever, you can buy an Off-Peak Return from Hayes & Harlington to Worthing for £26.50, use it home from Victoria, then head back to London with an additional Anytime Day Single from Hayes & Harlington to Heathrow Rail for £4.45, which you can use to catch any Elizabeth line train (not HEx or the Piccadilly line!) to Heathrow from central London, coming up to a total of £30.95.

The easiest way to go to heathrow from Worthing is to go to Victoria get on the tube (District/Circle Line) to South Kensington then Picadilly Line to Heathrow.
An Super Off Peak Travelcard with railcard is £18.30.
90%+ of journeys that is quicker than changing to Thameslink somewhere on the Brighton line, then again at Farringdon on to the Elizabethan line but it does depend on exactly when your travelling.

The pricebuster fares were a product of Connex South Central, Southern Govia inherited them when they won the franchise.
