The Chester Station Tap opened a couple of days ago. It has 8 handpumps, currently selling mainly Spitting Feathers beers plus a couple of guests. Very welcome for those of us with 20-25 mins plus for connections.

Did you spot any decent cider? I'm due a visit to Chester soon.

Very welcome indeed, but can you get from platform to pub and neck a pint in twenty minutes and back to platform?

Seems a waste of a good pint to me.

I'd make the 20 minute connection into an hour and 20 and savour two personally.

If it’s not enough time for a pint just have a half. But also accept that not everybody wants to drink at your pace.

Lots of off peak day return tickets issued from north Wales coast stations do not allow break of journey (to Liverpool for example) so can you ‘break your journey’ at Chester as you want (need!) to use the station ‘facilities!’

I tried it this weekend, a very nice place. A very similar range to their town centre pub, the website lists which beers (and ciders) are currently on. They seem to do food as well, from the website.

Four proper ciders to choose from - three from the Nightingale Company of Tenterden, which I've not come across before. Excellent!

They have a train departure screen in the pub, but it was on the blink when I was there!

Will have to give this a try. Am a big fan of the Station Tap pubs I've been to (Manc Piccadilly, Euston, Waterloo....)

One of my mates told me they are run by 2 different groups now after 2 business partners fell out.....

The Chester one has nothing to do with the other "Taps".

it's run by Spitting Feathers, a small Chester brewery, and is their 3rd pub.

Cool, thanks for the info mate. Haven't been to Chester station since December so didnt know anything about this new pub until I'd read this thread! As long as it has a good selection of cask ales am sure it will do well, as the other pubs right by the station as @DarloRich said are pretty mediocre to poor.....

Intrigued by this.

I change at Chester roughly monthly but often don't partake in a pint as rrh local pubs are a bit.. local.

Is be tempted by this railway pint.

I’ve never had a problem passing through the barriers to use the toilets, or the Costa
