Chiltern Main Line - Solihull, freight traffic frequency?

Hi All

I am just reaching out for some views and advice from the forum members, if possible. I have seen a property I’m interested in purchasing in Solihull, and it has the Chiltern Main Line running behind the garden.

I am concerned about noise coming from the line, but the passenger trains don’t seem too bad. Through my research, I’ve understood that freight trains also use the line and are a lot noisier and often run for longer. I’ve tried to understand how frequently they run, and the noise levels emitted, but I’m not having much luck. Was hoping someone on here may be able to assist.

Many thanks in advance.

Can't remember off the top of my head, but it's not more than a couple per hour, probably none at certain times of the day.

We were buying a house that backed onto Leamington station and it really wasn't much to worry about. All stock is diesel on there anyway.

I've since lived next to the wcml and for me pendolinos make more noise than most freight other than horn usage.

I live a stones throw from Olton (the next stop from Solihull) you do hear it, but it's not excessive, and it passes so quickly that eventually it just becomes background noise.

From next year there should be a much greater number of passenger services hauled by Class 68 locomotives. They produce quite a bit of noise/thrash* so I would make sure you hear one of those going past to gauge the decibels.

*If you don't like it, it is noise, if you savour it, it is thrash.

Bear in mind that the number of freight services can always increase in the future - though a substantial increase is fairly unlikely as the capacity and demand doesn't (currently) exist beyond Birmingham or Leamington.

Demand could increase, depends on where Four Ashes gets its traffic from.
