Hello all, I was wondering whether anybody knows who does the unit maintenance for units run by Chiltern Railways and at what depots is the maintenance carried out in?

From what I know the rolling stock classes are:

Turbostar 168 Marks 0-3
Networker 165
Stadler Class 68
BR Mk 3

Thank you in advance, Matt

Aylesbury for Heavy Maintenance and Wembley for Light Maintenance. I believe all others (Banbury/Tyseley) are stabling or servicing.

I believe the Mk3s are maintained at Wembley but overhauled (or at least were) at Bristol Barton Hill by Arriva TrainCare.

The 68s go back to DRS for heavy maintenance at Crewe Gresty Bridge and Carlisle Kingmoor.

All Class 165 and 165 heavy maintenance is carried out at Aylesbury.

Lighter maintenance is carried out on 165/168 at Banbury and Wembley LMD.

Mk.3 maintenace is carried out at Wembley LMD with Heavy Maintenance carried out at Aylesbury or sent away dependant on thr work.

DRS carry out maintenance on the locos with A exams being carried out at Wembley with B exams and above being carried out at Crewe Gresty Bridge and/or Carlisle Kingmoor

Also at Aylesbury is a Wheelathe.
Mk3s also go to Aylesbury from Wembley on special moves. Every now and then for the Wheelathe.
Whilst the 165 168 fleet also goes to Wheelathe at Aylesbury. Part of maintaince plan when due.

Thank you for your help guys. Interesting to hear about DRS, Dan.

The works carried out at Wembley, Banbury, Aylesbury - is this by Chiltern internal engineering and maintenance teams?

Yes in house. Please note Tyseley is no longer used. Also worth a mention is that at Stourbridge Junction. There is a light maintaince Depot there to.
Mk3s are kept and Stabled there as well.
With 168 and the very very rare occasion of a 165. Although a 165 is rare there at Stourbridge these days. Staff maintenance are also based there.
With a small Guards and Drivers Depot to add to it.

Also Birmingham moor Street as well as train crewe. Has two Carriage sidings one and two. With 168 165 Sometimes mk3 also stabled there. As required.
However again in house ie has a very small team of fitters based there also. For light maintaince and cleaning and train stabling overnight.

why dont chiltern use tyseley anymore?
Due to tyseley being controlled by West Midlands Railways ie for maintenance another company. Which will then charge arriva. Also as more than six months and way more months ,have elapsed wmr maintaince staff will no longer have knowledge on chiltern fleet. However when at tyseley. Chiltern railways drivers was also based there. With chiltern fitters also working there. But back in time when this happened fitters and guards was at Birmingham Snow Hill.
Drivers and guards and fitters after 2010.
Moved to Birmingham Moor Street.
Hence stabling sidings one and two.
Quite interesting around 2010 till 2013. Approximately before becoming plug doors and mk3 stabling overnight. Done at Stourbridge Junction. The 67s and mk3 slam doors in Wsmr Wrexham and Shropshire railway livery and ex stock used those sidings.
Whilst tyseley was still used for 168 165. Due to Slam mk3 at Birmingham Moor Street.
However due to Separate companies at a cost. Tyseley was charging Arriva Chiltern some money for them using it for the 168 165. After 2013 2014. When mk3 moved to Stourbridge Junction. Ie plug door conversion. Tyseley apart from Thursday nights due to maintaince at Birmingham Moor Street lost all the work. However fitters and drivers had to go to Tyseley Thursday's only. But a costly affair. Since around 2018 or so it ended with everything being done at Light Maintaince northern end at Stourbridge Junction or Birmingham moor Street with fitters based at both locations.
Also Aylesbury has a Wheelathe. So less need to go to Tyseley as well.
Also all of chilternrailways fitters and maintenance staff are fully employed by chiltern.
