The above has been on my 2DO list for many years but I’ve Ben spectacularly unsuccessful in being able to transit this link - it is primarily a freight route that links Glasgow’s northside lines with the south (between Shields Depot and Saltmarket/Trongate). Is anyone aware of any specials that are scheduled to use this route? I’ve looked at all the usual suspects but found nothing, so it would be great if anyone knows of any approaching events that might include it?

Nobody? On a slightly aligned topic, are there any firms offering rail tours within or from Scotland? I’ve lost track of all those using Scotland as a destination, but are any going in the other? If I see another Settle & Carlisle trip from the south I’ll scream!

The City Union line is mainly used by empty stock movements between Corkerhill depot and Glasgow Queen Street.

If you have a cool £6k to burn, the Royal Scotsman employs the route fortnightly between Spean Bridge and Wemyss Bay.

I am not aware of any affordable railtours expecting to use it.

SRPS offer a range of rail tours from Scotland, mainly the central belt but with the odd Ayrshire origin.

LSL originate some tours from West Scotland: the Blue Pullman has originated in Ayr and Sophos are running Ayr to Scarborough tomorrow
