Can anybody tell me the difference between clamp locks and in-bearer clamplocks?
… so much less of an issue for processes like tamping. In normal clamp locks, the drive and locking mechanism is situated in the space between two bearers. In-bearer clamp locks have this mechanism contained inside a hollow bearer.

And now they've invented the Mk. 3 in-bearer. Slightly simpler to set up initially, but a pig to even do a simple detection test on (perhaps there's a knack to it that I didn't get time to figure out, I only worked with them for one maintenance cycle).Yes:
The only competition to how unreliable these are, is HPSA POE.
- Clamp locks - were the most unreliable type of POE until… Clamp locks are renowned for having difficulty pulling the skin off a rice pudding. They are also awkward to work on. And on high speed junctions or junctions that handle regular heavy freight trains, often don’t last much more than five years before becoming very unreliable due to wear.
- Then they invented in-bearer clamp locks which are even worse. And even harder to work on.
- Not content with the above disaster areas, they then introduced the hy-drive system. Some of which are impossible for a normal human being to hand pump across.
