Class 195 - ‘PAD F’ Fault

Hi all,

Currently en route from Leeds - Manchester Victoria. Spare driver brought in a second set to P4B @ Leeds, and coupled. Following the join, the PIS displayed an ‘Alarm Activated - PAD F’ warning throughout.

Having previously worked these units, this isn’t something I’d seen. Even the driver was unsure. Well into the journey and this hasn’t cleared, following the attempted ‘set-up’ of the unit.

Any ideas?

It's telling you that the Passenger Alarm Device at door F has been pressed. Sometimes even a light press is enough to set the notifications off without actually setting the alarm off and applying the brakes and all the crew needs to do is reset the button. It should also show on the TCMS where the alarm has been activated.

Bit concerning if that is the case, that the driver and guard do not know what it is or how to clear it.

It's possible that the screen has frozen which can sometimes happen but I would expect someone who signs them to at least know what the message means.

That screen is definitely frozen, look at the chopped text.

I suspect someone has accidentally triggered the manual PIS message (easy enough to do as the control page on the TCMS can be very slow to respond) and the crew haven't realised you have to manually clear it off, otherwise any manual messages persist until the unit is rebooted.

That is 'normal' appearance. I don't think a lot of testing was involved in implementing the updated software, there are quite a few examples of stuff overlapping other things or being cut off.

That's a fair guess and needing to clear the message wasn't fully understood on our CAF units for a while. We only use the Messages section to change the final destination or when the headcode doesn't work but even now sometimes they'll run round with the wrong destination showing but internal announcements and screens are correct.

I've noticed the stopping patterns etc shudder a lot on the most recent update.
