Hello All,

Just wondering if anyone has any information on the concrete shunt from Tallington in Lincolnshire, I've seen it a few times and it's it fair old length taking concrete sections for a sewer contract, south ..... seems to be only on certain nights ?

The general pattern of recent workings has been to run south (from Tallington to Grain) on Monday / Wednesday / Friday nights and return north on Tuesday / Thursday / Sunday nights, although like other freight they get can get cancelled or run on a different day sometimes. The loco usually stables at Peterborough, or at the Grain end runs light to / from Hoo.

Searching for "Tallington Grain" on Flickr produces some good photos showing the concrete segments loaded to FCA wagons. These are intermodal flats fitted with "cassettes" (specialised flatbed containers) to carry the segments. It normally runs with 22 wagons so the usual length is 1522 feet / 464 metres including loco.

To avoid the weight restriction of the Kings Cross incline it usually runs southbound via Canonbury and takes a circuitous route around North London.

A nice photo of a Hunslet 0-6-0DH shunting the loaded wagons at Tallington - https://www.flickr.com/photos/icypixel/51192839915/

This photo has good detail of the segments secured to the cassettes: https://www.flickr.com/photos/151904976@N08/50481269613/
