Hello

Apologies if something like this has been posted before but I am struggling to find any information on the topic. A few months back I sat an OPC assessment day for my TOC, and on the day I recall being told that alike to driver assessments, I would only have 2 chances across all TOCs to pass conductor assessments. I was unsuccessful in my first attempt but would like to know whether this is true and all TOCs use the same OPC data and assessments and whether my next attempt with a TOC would be my final chance?

Morning. I also failed my first attempt and had to wait 6 months to redo the part I failed. I passed woohoo. If I had failed that part again it would have been game over as you can basically only fail once!! So yes you get two attempts. This is the OPC rules so I believe if you applied for a different TOC who didn’t use OPC you’d be free to apply. I’m sure I’ll be corrected if I’m wrong but this is how I understand it. Good luck with everything.

All TOCs/FOCs use OPC, the only difference is some send you to the OPC centres or use OPC staff and some have their own in-house staff trained to administer OPC assessments. So all conductor and driver assessments are on one, national database that all TOCS/FOCS can see for drivers and guards.

Ahh ok, I thought Northern used a different company for their guard assessments. I stand corrected.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but regarding these assessments, do TOCs require that all new entrants pass these tests or is it the case that someone who is currently a Conductor for another TOC who is looking to transfer companies would skip these tests and go straight to the interview stage? Or does this depend on the TOC that is recruiting?

TIA

Depends on the TOC. A friend on the inside applied for a TOC for a position 100 miles away, offering to relocate etc. They essentially headhunted him and expressed him to final managaer interview. Sadly he didn't get it but no tests needed - literally just "Send us your CV will you?" after he had contacted the HR Dept.
