Network Rail careers site & the operating companies.
I am coming from a control room background. In the civil service. This is a very pace and stressful enviroment. I feel I will slot right in.Starting as a Controller without having previous rail industry experience (and especially a solid gounding in some other front line operational role) would be a very steep learning curve. I have known it done - on the TOC side of things - but you'd be doing very well to find an externally advertised Network Rail Control job let alone get an interview. It's a pressurised environment and you need to be up to speed to be able to understand what people are talking about from day one. The usual stepping stones into a Control job with Network Rail are roles like Signaller, Maintenance Operative, Delay Attributor or Customer Services Assistant (at NR major stations).
When you say experience do you mean railway experience in general?Be aware “Control” room jobs are very highly pressured with little support from those above.
You have little authority to make serious decisions without referring up the chain who will throw it back down twice has hard covered in **** if it goes wrong.
NWR Control jobs are well paid though £55,000+ shifts 24/7 coverage.
It depends on what your looking for really, I would say though like others the chances of getting a TRC or the like Control job off the street or without a few years front line experience is going to be very very difficult or impossible.
Thanks but I based in the south of englandSamuel Knight have a handful of these positions available in South Yorkshire at the moment , our clients do require at least a years experience in a similar environment , however.
