There are 2 new area ID's in Network Rails datafeeds, those being M7 - MRROC Crewe South Area and M8 - MRROC Crewe Independent Lines. M7 has replaced Basford Hall Junction Box and M8 replaced Sorting Sidings North and Salop Goods Junction boxes. So yes at Betley Rugby and Manchester fringe.
I always thought that Rugby signalled a bit further north of Bentley, until two signals south of BH Junction? is this now not the case?
That still is the case but those berths will still be shown to Crewe South panel to see what's approaching and last sent. I don't know of any plans for the whole Crewe area to be changed over to Manchester but I would suspect that will be the plan for the future.
Yes, Betley Road SB was the northern-most control area transferred to Stoke SCC and then Rugby ROC.

Gresty Lane SCC is located in the same building as Crewe SB, but is treated as a separate signalling control centre.
How are you defining "pretend" - there's plenty of ROCs that weren't built as ROCs and almost inexhaustible variation between them!
