I seen a DB German engine pulling a LNER train today at Kings cross is this common to happen? Is it due to shortages?

Probably a DB Schenker liveried Class 90, which is a British train and in use as a spare.

I think you will have seen an ex-BR Class 90 on an LNER service.
DB Cargo have a fleet of 90s normally used on their freight trains, but they hire them out to other TOCs as well.
LNER need extra locos because of a shortage of Class 91s.
They are indeed DB locos, but they don't have German provenance.
So far, no foreign-based locos have ventured onto UK tracks, if we discount Eurotunnel and some emergency workings on HS1.
They would be out of gauge on our smaller profile network, and would not be equipped with Network Rail safety protection (AWS/TPWS) and other UK standard kit.

To further confuse, 3 class 90s were painted up in 1992 by BR into then DB, SNCB and SNCF livery as part of a joint promotion.
DB bought the EWS business from Canadian National in 2007 and slowly repainted the class 90s into DB Schenker livery.
A later reorganisation renamed the TOC as DB Cargo.

Funny how a German government agency (sort of) and a British government agency (sort of) can work so well together... and on the railway of all places! ;)

I’d be interested to hear about these... if anyone knows of further info please could you point me there or share?
Eurotunnel has ten former NS (Dutch Railways) Bo-Bo class 6400, five of them were purchased from DB Cargo, which work on engineering trains and rescue trains on HS1 and Channel Tunnel lines. I understood that they have visited St Pancras station.

Before the Class 92s were available, SNCF class 222xx were used through the Channel Tunnel and reached Dollands Moor on freight trains.

so whats used now, given that the 92 fleet seem to be either derelict or close to it?

Whatever happened with the 91 that suffered some sort of internal meltdown at the beginning of the year and was close to being written off.... 91111 perhaps?

Was it this that you saw Gadget88? I took these pictures in Leeds station on the 23 of September. It was on an LNER service from Kings Cross.
