Got on a Avanti West Coast service up north using the return portion of Interrail pass with a friend using Eurrail pass. Both are first class passes.

The last Friday train to Glasgow was declassfied in the evening peak northbound , even though the train was not full and standard premium would be able to take all overloaded standard class passengers.

Am I entitled to nothing even as I need to pay extra for our food and drinks?

It's going to be a difficult one. There is nothing which specifically defines what you're entitled to in these circumstances, although clearly it will be something. I would write to Avanti customer services and explain the circumstances. If they don't make an offer you're happy with, you can escalate it and ultimately take the matter to the Rail Ombudsman.
