In the introduction section of the December 2022 TfW timetable booklets it states that Deganwy, Ferryside and Kidwelly stations will no longer be request stops.

Personally, I think this is a good move, but surprised that Conwy hasn’t become a compulsory stop as it’s very rare that there aren’t any passengers boarding or alighting there.

Deganwy has been treated as compulsory for years.

I agree re Conwy.

Deganwy is still currently a request stop, there are occasions when the trains sail straight through, not often I grant you, as more or often than not there are passengers boarding and/or alighting.

Personally I think Conwy is underserved. I feel if more trains stopped usage would go up. Doesn’t justify Avanti services, but I’d consider it worthy of more calls. Same for Llanfairpwll.

Llanfairfechan, Penmaenmawr, Bodorgan, Ty Cross and Rhosneigr don’t need more. Valley already has slightly more.

I would say that Penmaenmawr, Llanfairfechan and Rhosneigr do deserve a better service as they all have decent sized settlements around them. Ty Croes and Bodorgan are the only ones that don’t really serve much.

I would have thought that Conwy should not be a request stop - especially as surely many tourists use it?

In practice, down trains almost always stop as the guard has around two minutes (or slightly less) to get through the train to see if anyone wants to stop there. If there are any tourists waiting for an up train, it will usually be obvious that they want to board even if they don’t signal to the driver.

Precisely, make it a compulsory stop to stop confusion!

Yep, saved me a post.
Last time I did the trip the train was rammed and the guard who was on the platform said they would be stopping there anyway.

The OP seems to imply this is a new thing Ferryside and Kidwelly not being request stops, but this already seems to be partially the case. Randomly picking last Sunday 7/17 services were open stops at those stations (a mix of GWR and TfW) so this move presumably just brings consistency:
