Delay repay Northern, two advance singles. Can I only claim for the outward?

So, I bought two advance trips, making up a return journey from Grimsby town to Custom House, from TrainSplit, with the outward yesterday on the following combination of Advance tickets.

Grimsby Town to Retford (Northern)
Retford to Newark (LNER)
Newark to Grantham (LNER)
Grantham to Zone 3 (LNER and Thameslink)

A 20 minute signalling delay at Brigg caused me to miss my onward connection at Retford.

I spoke to the Northern guard before getting to Retford who gave me a new itinerary on Hull Trains, but the Hull Trains guard would only honour this to Grantham, where I had to change to LNER to continue.

I managed to get to Stevenage, then Farringdon, where further delays got me to Custom House at 19:15, 2 hours and 15 mins late.

I'm submitting a delay repay claim to Northern, I presume I can only claim for the outbound, the return being on a different booking reference?

A further complication is that I had a Seatfrog upgrade on the LNER train that I missed between Retford and Stevenage, so I will claim for this too.

I'm not sure the online form will handle this. What's the best course of action, and what should I expect as compensation?

You should claim against the full itinerary, Grimsby to Custom House, from Northern for your actual delay against booked arrival time. I think you know this, and you can claim for a combination of advance (single) tickets making up a journey. Just to be clear, again, your return journey has nothing to do with this claim, you can claim separately in the same way if you are delayed on that journey.

I do, to be honest. Just looking at the website, apparently I can claim for the whole return. I'm guessing this is only if I'm travelling on an actual return ticket.

Adds an interesting dimension to LNER only selling single now.

I've put in my claim, let's see what happens.

I don't want Northern tickets in compensation. They're no use to me.

You were travelling on a single ticket, therefore compensation will be calculated against that single ticket.

One journey comprised of a series of single tickets, I think you mean.
