Delay Repay with two different types of ticket

On 12th June I was travelling from King’s Cross to Hucknall.

Planned itinerary:
1548 KGX to GRA 1649
1659 GRA to NOT 1739
1800 NOT to HKN 1812

Unfortunately the Hull Trains service was late, causing me to miss my connection at Grantham.

I therefore ended up on:
1745 GRA to NOT 1822
1825 NOT to HKN 1842

I managed to make the very tight connection at Nottingham to avoid waiting an hour for the next train.

The tickets used were an Anytime Single Hull Trains Only from KGX to GRA, and an EMR Staff pass from Grantham to Hucknall.

My question is, despite the fact that the Hull Trains service arrived into Grantham less than 30 minutes late, am I entitled to claim delay repay from them for the whole journey delay, based on the arrival at Hucknall, despite the fact that part of the journey involved a staff pass?

Thanks in advance.

A staff pass is still issued under the National Rail Conditions of Travel (NRCoT), hence it counts as a ticket in just the same way as one you have paid for. Of course, since its cost is £0, Delay Repay can only be claimed when combining it with a paid-for ticket.

In this case you have a valid Delay Repay claim as I see it - albeit one that the usual automated forms probably don't easily let you enter, so I'd suggest contacting Hull Trains' customer services to submit a claim manually. You'd be entitled to 50% of the cost of your Hull Trains Anytime Single as you arrived at your final destination 30-59 minutes late.

I have successfully made claims of this nature in the past through the automated process from both EMR and Avanti. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean it will work with HT. Just create an image of ticket(s) and pass together and submit that.
