I'm travelling from London to Runcorn on Friday, then returning from Stockport to London on Sunday (with a lift by car between Runcorn and Stockport). I don't know exactly which times I'll travel so I'll buy an Off-Peak return. I was originally going to buy an Off-Peak return to Runcorn for £114 and then a separate single from Stockport to Crewe for £15.10 (rejoining the route of the original ticket at Crewe).
But I think the should be some destinations that (e.g. on the lines between Liverpool & Manchester) that have valid routes between London and both Runcorn & Stockport which will allow me to avoid buying a separate single to rejoin the route of the original ticket. I prefer to avoid anything contentious, so ideally I'm looking for a destination with clear validity that would seem normal to any rail staff who aren't familiar with routes. (I may try to force a flexible booking engine like trainsplit.com to give me an itinerary via Runcorn on the way out and via Stockport on the way back, so I'm fully covered if I can).
I think Lea Green (£114 from London) is a decent contender. Does anyone have a better suggestion?
