Anybody had problems when they cancelled?

I cancelled before Xmas but they renewed the ticket on 1/1. I cancelled again but have now received a request for funds for this month?

This prompted me to check! Subscribed via HVV (Hamburg) to start 01/12, cancelled wef 31/12 on 5/12 (before I set off for Germany) and haven’t been billed since, so no apparent problems.
Have you perhaps not given sufficient notice? HVV require cancellation before the 10th of the month, so cancellation on 11/12 will not kick in until 31/01.

Where have you bought your DT?
When exactly did you cancel it? Most (but not all) providers require you to cancel before the 10th of the month.

Thank you.

Ordered on 6/ 12 for December and cancelled on 27/12 after I had returned. Checked the app on 1/1 and noticed that it had been reset for January so I cancelled again.

This prompted me to check! Subscribed via HVV (Hamburg) to start 01/12, cancelled wef 31/12 on 5/12 (before I set off for Germany) and haven’t been billed since, so no apparent problems.

That might explain things.

Thanks

Yes, it's a terminology/translation thing, in English it should really be called something like "turn off auto-renew".

It does feel a bit strange to "cancel" something immediately after buying it

Regular public transport users in most of Germany will be perfectly used to the concept as season tickets have operated on a monthly subscription basis for many years.

Again a question that lacks full detials for a final answer, in this case from WHO/what agency you ordered it.
The general rule is that it has to be cancelled BEFORe the 10th to end that month. In DE burocrazy always takes time-for the paperwork in the office, a relic from the past when it was all indeed paper.
A few agencies have even adapted tpo modern times with electronics and allow it later. But it looks to me that you overlooked this.
HVV even allows a startdate halfway in the month, I read a report from someone who utmost cleverely used this and for using it 14 days only had to pay around 22€-a real true bargain! Put in startdate and cancel it same day before 10th of the month!
Read seat61 for more rec or use mo.pla. They claim to offer 1 day terms for start and finish-but will charge always 49 for also parts of a month

Correct, I used mo.pla and you can really cancel until 1 day before the end of the month.
