Just thought to just tell everyone that they will be a Diesel Railcar convention at the Worth Valley Railway from Friday 30th September to Sunday 2nd October 2011.

Are there ever any trips organised to operate vintage DMU's for longer journies over mainlines? I should imagine they would be easier to organise than steam trips and more flexible in where they can operate to and from.

The Hastings DEMU is the only 'Heritage' Diesel Unit certified for main line operation - see http://www.hastingsdiesels.co.uk/railtours/ for details of forthcoming trips.

The NYMR is also looking at certifying its 101 unit for main line use, but it will be confined to the Battersby-Whitby route.
