My brother has set his heart on the DJH O gauge class 47 kit for his 60th birthday ... going to model the loco he passed out on as a driver back in the day. However, am getting mixed messages on whether DJH is still trading and availability. Is anybody able to help please.

My understanding is that Squires bought DJH (O-gauge, at least) a year or so ago. However, it might take a while to assess and market the range.

I had my eye on a DJH kit of a C2X in OO that is available but (and I don't know if this applies for O gauge as much) the lack of wheels after Mark (of Markits) sad passing makes it difficult to see how to complete the kit. For a class 47, I guess it's likely to be less difficult, but check first!

If one can’t be found, the Heljan model isn’t difficult to find second hand in the low £300s, but watch for the usual Heljan split gears issues.

I have a Heljan 37 that I got cheap because of the split gears. We managed to get a set of stronger replacement ones from Gaugemaster after a few months of waiting for £20 and it’s a fairly simple job to replace them. It runs very nicely now.
