I'm not from around there, but looking on google maps it seems that the Dundee to Perth line passes right outside the entrance of Dundee airport.
I was wondering whether it would be feasible to build a station by the airport, as there are no nearby stations and it seems like a missed opportunity.
We've seen the Scottish government throwing money at maybe not so feasible ideas (for example Inverness Airport station, which is a not-so-nice footpath with luggage to the actual airport or Reston) so I don't see why not to build it.
Station would be served by the same trains as Invergowrie, would only need some steps down the hill, and a lift+footbridge over the A85.

At the moment the airport only has flights to Orkney, Shetland and London, but with a station outside it could be a budget alternative to Aberdeen, Edinburgh or Glasgow for the usual Ryanair/Wizz/Easyjet etc.
Thoughts?

What's the throughput of the airport? Sounds like no more than a few hundred seats per day, which wouldn't justify a station unless it also served some major community nearby. And I'm really doubtful the Scottish government will or should be encouraging more airport capacity.

Last year it had about 25k passengers but Dundee is Scotland's 4th city, and as I said it could very easily get more flights (see photo)
You could add an exit (or a path, if you're against minor deforestation and cutting through the botanical garden) onto the other side to connect western Dundee (Balgay, Logie & Wimberly Houses)

There is also a bus shuttle between the station and the airport terminal at Inverness - for which you can add the bus leg onto your rail ticket.

Dundee Airport doesn't have enough passengers to warrant a bus service at present, let alone a train station. More useful would be a station further along to serve Ninewells Hospital and the Technology Park – there's more housing nearby, and the hospital with its associated medical school and research facilities have a large number of commuters.

The current Invergowrie station would ideally be kept as it serves a different purpose, but if trains could only stop at one then a new Ninewells station could serve both markets. There would also be more space for parking at a Ninewells location.

Other possible new stations between Dundee and Perth would be at St Madoes where there's a sizable village and good road connections with the rest of the Carse of Gowrie, or alternatively a "Perth Parkway" station in Walnut Grove to entice people off the M90 for travelling to Edinburgh and Glasgow. Reopening Errol would be a bit pointless as it's a fair distance from the village itself.

I doubt those advantages would persist if it had to fund a railway station.
