Hello everyone.

I have been viewing this forum for some time now and have found it so useful that I have never needed to ask a question before as I have always found my answer so thanks for that. This is therefore a first post for me, so I will give a bit of an introduction and then ask my questions. All advice is welcome.

I made the decision to start applying to become a train driver at the start of 2019. I have applied for 8 trainee roles so far across the UK with different companies and have only ever made it past the initial CV paper sift once in the summer with East Midlands Trains. Although I am still waiting to hear back from 3 TOC's regarding applications. I was invited to stage 1 psychometric testing with the OPC and was delighted to pass all the tests on my first attempt. After passing stage 1 I was not invited back to do stage 2 testing and so have never attempted it. Going forwards with applications, I would like to showcase on my CV that I have passed stage 1 but don't know if I have passed at national or enhanced standard. I have phoned the OPC who told me that due to the volume of applicants they could not give details of specific or individual test grades.

My first question is - does anybody definitively know if East Midlands accept national or enhance test grades?

If they accept only enhanced grades I know I have passed all the tests at that level. I have searched old forums on this topic and it seems to be something of a grey or confused area.

My next questions are - on the day of the test i was told my results would be valid for 2 years, is this for all TOC's in general or specifically East Midlands?

I have read on another thread that GWR accept results from 5 years previous so would i be right in thinking my results will be valid with EM for 2 years but valid for 5 years with GWR?

Thanks for reading, I know its long but it's my first post and i'm keen to learn.

The length of time the tests are accepted for varies between TOCs but the default is 5 years.

If you apply for driver jobs in the future they will usually ask if you have sat any of the tests before and they'll use your NI number to check with the OPC so you won't need to add it to your CV.

Good luck going forward

People who had passed stage 1 previously were asked to come in and do the Group Bourdon test again under the guise of "enhanced standards". EMT use the same pass/fail mark as every other TOC, but they use the GBT as a way of whittling down the numbers (they say they use an enhanced mark, but more probably they just take the top 200 candidates or whatever) therefore everyone has to sit it with them.

So if i was to apply for EM again in the future would i need to resit the GBT? Or would they take into account that I have already complete it previously with them?

Probably, yes, if it was within 2 years it would be just the GBT, at least, that is what has happened before.
