Today there has been disruption in the Metheringham area due to animals on the line and/or a broken down train. The train in question was the 2K15 Lincoln to Peterborough, which ultimately 'broke free' 87 minutes late, which EMR then decided to terminate at Sleaford at 1630 to reform the planned 2K22 at 1708, which resulted in the cancellation of that unit between Sleaford and Peterborough both ways.
The next southbound train (the late running 2K17) was supposed to be running through to Peterborough to form the 1710 2K24, but is now being terminated at Spalding and turned back north.
Why didn't EMR let the 2K15 run through to Peterborough, where it would've been in time to form the 1710 2K24, and turn the 2K17 at Sleaford with very little downtime to form the 2K22, which would have caused far less disruption than the way they did it? Is this all so that the train sets involved would be matched to their original services?
