This is a long shot but I know I can use FIP coupons to travel in Ireland/Northern Ireland on the trains BUT are priv discounted fares available on this service or not?

I'm looking at flying into Dublin then using Enterprise as I've never used it before then spending the weekend in Belfast - anyone know if priv fares are available?

I believe that if you use free coupons you will need one for each administration for that journey, but as Seaeagle says, you can buy Priv tickets with your FIP card.

Hi HLE,

Priv fares are available at the usual 75% off single / 50% of adult single fare for a return . I can check the fare manual when I'm back in work later this week. I don't have the 2014 manual with me.

The 2013 manual I do have and as a guide:

Connolly - Belfast Single: €9.50
Connolly - Belfast Return: €19.00

If you are travelling round the North and utilising bus and rail an ilink card may work out more beneficial.

If you are in no rush on the Dublin to Belfast leg you could buy a priv to Portadown and use ilink on the local service in to Belfast. The local train also takes you in to Great Victoria Street in the city centre as Belfast Central, where the Enterprise goes to is a bit further away from the centre.

That is helpful, I've never used Enterprise before so I'm looking forward to using it.

I've no idea what I'm doing other then I'm spending a long weekend based in Belfast so the iLink does look as it could be rather useful.

Just wondering but what trains operate the Portadown to Belfast route?

3000 Class and 4000 Class DMU's, both built by CAF in Spain.

3000 Class http://www.thewandererphotos.com/2014Photos/July-2014/i-LpV35mP

4000 Class http://www.thewandererphotos.com/2013Photos/August-2013/i-kwmV9cF

The 4000's sound very like the UK Class 172's.

The Ilink would be very useful if doing trips around N.I., but you also have priv for rail so that will be just as cheap. NIR only do Priv singles, word of warning. Each train has a conductor.

If just staying in Belfast City it is very easy to walk around.

If you are intending making any Ulsterbus journies it would be worthwhile but if you are just travelling round the Belfast area by bus the Translink Metro day ticket would be cheaper.

If you want to see the railway museum then it is a short walk from Cultra station on the Bangor line.

Well I rang DB Staff Travel and sadly Irish Rail doesn't appear in their computer systems :|

Thewanderer, any idea if I can just book on the day from the booking office or are reservations recommended?

I travelled on it recently, 10:30 ish ex Belfast, no need for reservations, it wasn't terribly busy, getting a Priv beforehand shouldn't be a problem.

Sort of faded glory in need of a refurbishment, tea in a proper pot but not complimentary. Not a very challenging run but even so we arrived in Conolly about 10 late.

Ahh cool, looking at the 13:20 Dublin to Belfast and the 10:35 Belfast to Dublin as that gives me time to do stuff in the morning in Dublin and on day of departure give me some extra time getting to Dublin.

Priv Fares are not available to pre-book. Just turn up on the day. No issue at all.

Current Fares (have the manual in front of me now):

Priv Single: €9.50
Priv Return: €19.00

The De-Dietrich fleet is scheduled to get a mid-life overhaul and refurbishment very soon. Still a fantastic coach to travel in.

If interested in upgrading to first plus current supplements are:
