I'm travelling from Paddington to Warminister return tomorrow only options were TOD (may be in a rush and don't want to spend time on collecting tickets also have purchased any permitted routing) and on GWR App. I've screen grabbed the QR code/ eticket from my iPhone and printed it out as a backup in case phone dies, is the paper copy likely to open barriers and be valid? Also if I decide to return via SWR to Waterloo , will the QR / eticket cause any grief at Waterloo?

Despite what the GWR website says, it in fact issues e-tickets.

If you check your confirmation email, you should find PDF ticket(s) attached which you can print, show on a device, tattoo on your arm or whatever.

Sadly all the FirstGroup TOC websites carry misleading information that suggests that e-tickets can only be used via the TOC's own app.

I am seeking clarification here before I proceed any further.

I am using the Mixing Deck page of the GWR website to book some tickets, and the "Delivery Details" page has the "Send my ticket via E Ticket" radio button selected as the default option (the collect from station and postal options are also listed too).

I am concerned with the bolded text below, which states:

"Your ticket will be delivered to the GWR mobile app, please ensure you have it downloaded and are signed in before travelling.

Your ticket will be delivered to the Ticket Wallet in your GWR mobile app. New Device"

If I was to purchase the tickets and complete the payment stage, would I get the email confirmation with the pdf attachments, or is it locked in their own app?

The text on the website is wrong. You will receive a PDF and it not necessary to use the GWR app.

I believe other forumites have brought it to the company's attention but it hasn't been corrected.

I too have been deterred from buying tickets in the past because of that message, but I recently bought eTickets from GWR without any issue.

Incase anyone ever refers back to this thread, all FirstGroup apps say this, but you will get a PDF you can do whatever you like with.

Ive often found that paper copies and screen shots don't scan very well. TBH that's probably more to do with the quality of the scanner used.

When tickets are opened directly in app, the app will usually request the device to turn screen brightness to maximum, making scanning easier than when scanned from a screenshot in the photos app.
