Excess for Avanti advance e-ticket

I have an advance e-ticket for today's cancelled 07:56 Carlisle to Glasgow Central and am trying to travel via Dumfries instead, as I'm going to Hairmyres and the next service via Lockerbie wouldn't be a recognised connection. I can ask if my ticket would be accepted, but if not, what's the easiest way to get an excess for my existing ticket?

Thank you.

Edit: I forgot that the connection time at Glasgow Central was 15 rather than 10 minutes, but at least I'd have a better chance of making the East Kilbride train via Dumfries.

Ask for acceptance as you say - given the complete carnage they really should let you!

I think the easiest thing if they say no is to buy an entirely new ticket, and then refund the Avanti advance, which you can do in full because your train was cancelled

I've asked for acceptance and that's been granted thankfully. Even if I make the change at Glasgow Central in twelve minutes, I think that's still getting to Hairmyres 61 minutes later than originally planned.

While this way is easier, if the replacement ticket is more expensive and the delay if they weren’t rerouted would be over 60 minutes, and the OP is willing to take a more difficult option so as not to lose any money over this, the OP could claim the cost replacement tickets under the Passenger Rights and Obligations.

Whether the OP wants to take this route will probably depend on the difference in cost. Legally the TOC must reroute them if the delay is over 60 minutes, but they like to ignore this legislation. While it is fairly certain the OP would get their money back eventually under this, it’s worth noting it may involve a significant amount of back and forth, and potentially going to the omsbudsman or small claims court. It’s really up to the OP if the amount on money we’re talking about is worth the hassle.

Make sure you claim the delay repay you're entitled to!
I definitely will. I also noticed that I could have changed at Barrhead to reach Hairmyres when I did without ignoring minimum connection times, but I made the connection even after making use of left luggage at Glasgow Central.

This is unrelated to the rest of this, but I'd like to add that Google Maps (and others?) still default to the old position of Hairmyres station, which needs to be changed.
