Hi everyone.

Yesterday I had my hearing test for a post with network rail but was full of the cold and had a blocked left ear as a consequence. This led to me failing my medical as noted by the person carrying out the assessment but they said they would get back in touch with Network Rail in order to organise an appointment for me to have a retest.

Should I get in touch with Network Rail as well or just allow the medical assessment company to get on it?

How badly blocked was your ear? Were you aware of it being blocked before the test? I'm full of cold myself and have a medical tomorrow, I'm worried now...

The same happened to me with an upper respiratory tract infection which caused a complete list of hearing in my left ear. Went to GP as advised by the examiner and contacted NR HR to advise was on a 7 day course of antibiotics. They re arranged the retest ( hearing only) for 10 days later which I passed ok.

Mines was blocked to the point where my aunt tried asking me if i wanted coffee (ot was a busy room) but to my blocked ear and i didnt hear! I only got it the day before the test.

If your ear is blocked id repeatedly try all the ways to relieve it from online. So take a deep breath in close your mouth pinch your nose and try to breath out through your nose. You can also download apps which will do audiometry tests for you (if you have actual headphones). Id recommend downloading one anyway as it gives you at least some idea of what to expect.
