So, We didn't get to the bottom of the 'Smalltown Boy' ticket office and bridge question... however, moving into the later 80s, just over 20 years ago, in May 1988, the one hit wonder, 'Fairground Attraction' released their catchy 'perfect' song. Thanks to YouTube, you can view the video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OWzDP5cnE0

You may notice, at 2:19 on the video, a rather square, Blue & Grey EMU comes into sight, crossing the canal. There is clearly OHL, so I'd guess it was something in the 3xx series. As Fairground Attraction are a Glaswegian band, I thought it maybe from Scotland, however, Im almost positive it's not a 303. It could be a 'plastic' unit (ie 313), but I'm pretty certain it's of '1st gen' origin. So, bearing in mind it was filmed about 1988, can anyone guess the videos location, and the class of the unit????

Pretty sure it's a 302 or 307 with NSE lettering about halfway along the bodyside. Pass on the location!

Incidentally, they weren't a one hit wonder (sadly - 'Perfect' was an awful song!). The had another Top 10 hit called 'Find my love' but I can't remember it.

first line of quote deleted

another classic 80s vid with trains in it is this one:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=OV75W2qacDc

and theres a clown in it too!!!

Thats a good one.

The station reminds me of Waterloo, however the unit doesn't look like a 455 (as it seems to lack jumpers). I was also thinking perhaps a 318, but afaik, they were delievered in SPT Orange. I'm going for Waterloo now anyway.

Also, another 1980s question, which I'm trying to find a video of.
In 1983(?) Howard Jones performed 'What is Love?" on Bristol Temple Meads station, and named HST powercar, 43002 'Top of the Pops' (apparently, it was the only ever Top of the Pops programme to feature a HST!) . I cannot find anything on the internet to prove this fact, yet I've heard it from two separate sources.... help is required.......

Not sure of the statin, but the unit is certaily a 455 (either 455/7 or 455/9 variation). A look at my 1986 pocket book confirms the style of jumpers.

I assume I am one of these 'sources' from a conversation the other night! Whilst you have the right artist, you have the wrong song. The oe he performed was 'Like to get to know you well' - I remember watching in on TOTP! (The date was August 84.) YOu may have better luck searching fo that....

Quoting myself I know and bringing up an old thread, but I've finally tracked down Howard Jones' performance at BTM on Youtube - take a look at http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=qA4AJ0iTdwg and turn up your speakers. ;) You can even see the 'real' liveried HST in the background.

There's another clip from the same programme - when a rather naff Bucks Fizz song was interrupted to show 43002 arriving at Bristol - at http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=gy4aDHEtGtU

Fantastic :D The Bucks Fizz song is naff, but you can't beat a bit of Howard Jones. Classic New Romantic.
