I'm catching a train out of Liverpool Street on an advance purchase ticket at 11:00 today and heading into London on a National Express coach. However, the coach made an unplanned diversion leaving the M3 at Basingstoke and went A33-M4 instead of M25, with expected time into Hammersmith now 10:18, with scheduled arrival time 09:50.

I don't have much confidence making the 11:00 train now by taking the obvious tube. What's the fastest way to get to Liverpool Street to get the train in order to avoid buying a new ticket?

How did you get on?
The coach finally arrived Hammersmith at 10:14 so I got on the 10:19 Circle line train, scheduled to arrive Liverpool Street at 10:51, which I expected to be the last departure which I was sure that I could catch my train at 11:00 if there was no further delay on the Underground. The headway of the Underground was 5 minutes. The Underground train arrived Liverpool Street at 10:52 and I finally reached the train out of Liverpool Street, platform 13 at 10:54.

The ticket was bought at CrossCountry for this instance (I normally buy my tickets elsewhere, however, I was trying out different retailers and it happened to be CrossCountry this time) so if needed I could pay the price difference to make it a super off-peak single if I couldn't make the 10:19 train.

In all honestly, I can't think of any quicker way than the obvious.

Even if Crossrail was already open, it wouldn't have been worth changing to it at Paddington because the simple act of changing would introduce a minimum time penalty that would likely eat up any benefits of the faster journey through the core.

I think, for the OP as a runner, Hammersmith to Cannon Street on the District Line and running might be slightly quicker / more reliable than Hammersmith to Liverpool Street on the Circle Line but only just.
