Finland FIP Coupon Travel

After some help, has anyone used FIP coupons to travel in Finland.

RDG travel guide says that supplement including reservation is required on Pendolino and IC services.

Ffestiniog travel and RST are unable to book anything for VR (Finnish Railway).

Is the only way at stations in Finland and by telephone?

Or is it a case you are ok to just board with a valid FIP coupon and pay a supplement on board?

No idea about FIP, but you can buy seat reservations at ticket offices I guess - no idea if you can do this via the VR mobile app for a normal ticket - normally it is included in ticket price.
BTW, not all stations have ticket offices so just bear that in mind. I guess the conductor will sell you a seat place, but be warned that there is no way of knowing if that seat has already been selected when onboard.

The closest I can find is the "lomalippu" (Holiday ticket) where when you select a train (the ticket covers travel) you just select your seat (also paid for). Does this interrail app do this when you select a trip?

I took a look at VR's website, couldn't really find an answer.

Last time I travelled with a friend who had FIP coupons (I had Interrail myself), we did not make reservations anywhere in Finland, except for night trains.
Reservations are not available online, in the VR app or on ticket machines. Ticket offices are becoming very rare, but you can also book via phone.

I’ve made the supplement/reservations for Slewper trains, by calling VR.

However when I asked about FIP coupon supplements/reservations they didn’t seem to know or understand what was in about.

Out of interest is it easy to identify unreserved seats on the IC trains?

You can make a test booking on the VR website or app and go into the seat selection. There you can see which seats have not been booked yet.
