I was in Oban recently and I saw a wall of lockers like the ones you find in many German stations, but they were blocked off, not sure why. There is no indication that this is the case on the NR website, so if I had been planning to use them I would have been in trouble.

I believe Fort William has some similar lockers - I have an upcoming trip where a locker is essential. Does anyone know for sure that the lockers are available?

Thanks - well, nobody said they're definitely open in the other thread. As I mentioned I thought the Oban ones would be, but they weren't. And my trip is before yours so can't wait for you to report back.

Not Ben Nevis. This is a day trip joined to a business trip to Glasgow, and I will have some heavy items with me which I'd rather not carry in my backpack while walking around the town. Worst case I can carry them around like I did in Oban but that wasn't as heavy as the items I will have at Fort Bill will be. The items can't be left in a random hotel, but a locker is acceptable. For various reasons I can't get to my Glasgow hotel to store them there either, otherwise I would just do that.

OK, the lockers were available to use, BUT there was a notice on the wall saying that they would not be available to access between 1930 and 2130 every day, and that was exactly the time I would have needed access later.

Anyway as I couldn't risk the lockers not being available before going, I managed to reduce the weight of my backpack to 5kg which was not great to carry round all day but doable.

On the Oban trip I had nearly 10kg and I had to just hide some stuff in a bush... I hid it so well that it took me about 2 minutes to find it again after arriving back at the exact spot on my phone GPS.
