anyone know the plans for the restoration of the APT at Crewe heritage centre.
I know it is in the process of being restored but is it planned to be mainline running or at least have all the electronics working.
I would personally love to see it mainline running again , if they ever did i would definitely book a rail tour with it.

Its a lovely thought but I’d say zero chance of that ever happening, you would be talking £millions as all the obsolete 1970s electronics alone would need total replacement then add full refurbishment of all the running gear, traction equipment etc etc…. who is going to foot the bill?

Unless you know a Euromillions winner willing to fund it the APT will never run under it's own power again.

There isn't anything close to a full set left to refurbish anyway.

They've stated they won't put it back on the main line at all, even if someone funds the full costs with zero risk to them.

What a strange approach.
Conservation of an all-original exhibit isn’t such a bad thing. It might even be preferable to burning through a huge heap of ‘consumable’ parts to the point that some items have none left in reserve. (Diesel ‘preservation’ springs to mind here.)

I believe the tilt mechanism in at least one carriage is in working condition....at least it was a few years ago. I too would love to see it running again though.
A slightly dubious thought ..... when a Pendolino is retired, if it was re nosed and repainted, would that do the trick??

Had a look in this the other week. It’s very nice on the inside, and they were actively taking the paint off to give it a new coat.

Do the electronics (doors, announcements, etc) work anymore?

In the same way that if you paint a Vauxhall Corsa bright red it will pass as a Ferrari?

A repainted Pendolino isn't an APT. It is a Pendolino painted in a different colour.

The 'Blue Pullman' approach, I wouldn't put it past LSL!
