For those who haven’t seen, this is the new GBR “branding” on 701046. It’ll begin running services on Sunday.

Caption: The transport secretary standing in front of a Class 701 in SWR livery, with a vinyl over the usual place where the logo would go, staying instead “Great British Railways - Coming soon”.

This branding is nothing more than a bit of advertising. It's not a new livery, and never was going to be. GBR as a train operating entity doesn't exist, and a lot of hoops need to be jumped through in Parliament before it can. We won't be seeing the demise of SWR (or indeed South Eastern, Northern, LNER etc.) For a long time, if ever.

My prediction is sectoristion, using the existing names, and base liveries, so to bring it back on topic 701s will continue to be grey, with just a new logo "GB railways SWR" or similar.

It’s been reported Heidi said that they would be rebranded GBR, but that they would have to ‘earn’ it by meeting specific standards in reliability etc.

Isn’t it purely applied for the photo opportunity?
It's expected to run the that unit as the first train on Saturday, so presumably will stay on at least that long.......

701031 out this evening on 2V53, which I don't think is part of any of the fourteen diagrams listed up-thread

A GBR paint job with SWR branding would have been more eye catching, better PR. But we're stuck with the sticker for now, and that is what it is. I also think sectorisation will eventually make its way into the GBR equation, and realistically it has to. Powerful sectors with their budgets led by experienced managers such as Steve White at SouthEastern. Infact I'd probably have Steve run a new-style NSE part of GBR. He has all the credentials. Have Chris Green, Graham Eccles and Tim Shoveller heavily involved too. Chris and Graham as advisors if they so wish, and Tim heading GBR ideally.

Morale needs lifting across the railway, especially the commuter lines. An NSE style blitz on coherant communication, branding and empowerment can achieve that. Once people feel proud again to work for SWR etc like they do for SouthEastern, the passenger experience inevitably gets better.

Chris Green is 81 and Graham Eccles is 3 years younger. They're part of the past and no doubt enjoying their retirement - they can't just go on forever running railways

Advising, not running. But I get your point completely

The problem with that is that there's no such thing as a GBR paint job, not least because the organisation won't exist for at least another 18 months. Hendy pointed out recently that neither he nor the DfT are going to get involved in branding and liveries (thankfully). That'll be up to GBR and ultimately its CEO.

After all the posts there've been on numerous threads in the past, complaining that re-livering is such a waste of money, it's amusing to find people wanting it to happen now to a class 701. I'm sure the SWR management have other priorities, like getting 701s into service, and the people working on GBR have many more important things to do than think about liveries.

So hang on - that one 701 is being rebranded with the stripe? Only that one - until SWR is 'good enough'? And no word on OLR operators - not even LNER or SE? I suppose we should wait until the full press release tomorrow to find out. Maybe (hopefully) we'll be pleasantly surprised...

The embargo is now over and the articles have come out in full force:

"GBR branding has been added to one train previously operated by SWR.
It features part of a union flag, the double arrow symbol that is synonymous with Britain’s railways, and the words “Great British Railways coming soon”."

Here is someone who is absolutely clueless and has no idea what she's doing. This whole GBR thing is going to be an absolute shambles, trust me on this.

They have had all this time to come up with something fresh, exciting and brand new and this is the best they can do - a sticker.

I think someone has asked Heidi when all the 701s will be introduced - her expression and hand gestures suggest she's said "Don't ask me......"
So a Transport Sec who doesn’t know what’s happening (or maybe can’t be bothered). Doesn’t really inspire confidence.

I appreciate that Alexander can’t possibly know everything, but one would have thought that she had been briefed that introduction of the 701s may come up!

BA. Virgin Atlantic. Almost everything in America :)
I've just scrolled through the home pages of both and neither feature a flag even once. Likewise American business might fly their flag at their physical sites but when did you last see the stars and stripes feature as part of Apple's branding.

Sorry but this GBR branding is lazy, uninspiring, and unimaginative.

Somewhere, not in London
I was going to say Estwing but they only fly a flag on their labels, not on the website so that might have changed.

Comparable brands like Lie Neilsen do not…

I doubt this will be the actual branding, any more than "Stagecoach 1" was
