German DB App buying tickets

Hello,
Does anybody know please, if it is ok to buy two single tickets using the DB app. There's a section that says 'book for another person'. You fill the details in then it asks for date of birth using one of those very annoying scroll back date inputs. My wife was born in 1968 and it takes an age to scroll back as opposed to putting in manually. If I have to do that every time I want to book tickets it's going to be a right pain. Is it ok just to book two singles in my name to show train staff (if required) for my wife and I when we travel on public transport or do they have to have my wife's details to cross ref with passports?? I've never been asked to show my passport during public transport in any European country or Germany before? Would be most grateful for any help!!
Thank you

Where do you have to fill in the date of birth? When I do a trial booking in the app I'm able to click on "passengers/bicycles" on the home screen, then click the pencil next to "1 person" and increase the number of persons to 2. When continuing the booking I then just get a page where I have to fill out the age of each person (which is a numerical field, so you'd just enter "57").

I've booked quite a few tickets via DB recently and never ever had to fill in my data of birth. Just my age is sufficient.
Edit: the age field even only appears when booking an international trip, for domestic trips the age range is already sufficient.

Hi there, this is on the DB Navigator mobile app. Complete from/to details. Journey times come up. Make selection then at bottom press 'Go to offers'. Various ticket options. Buy ticket and it continues as previously described! We seem to be using different apps??? Thank you so much for your reply.

Sorry, 'passengers bicycles' yes I'd already increased to 2 persons. You seem to be suggesting I therefore don't have to press 'book for another person'? You'd think by setting 2 persons in age ranges it should add two singles into the total to pay figure but it just computes for one ticket??

The easiest thing to do is to buy a Tages Ticket plus which will get us there and back and anything else during the day working out cheaper than a total of four single tickets have just realised

It's perfectly fine to do this. Unlike say airline tickets, the tickets are not specific to a person and DB does not care who actually uses them. Giving identification details is just a precaution when using electronic/self print tickets to stop multiple people presenting the same ticket and all claiming it was theirs.
All that matters is that the person named on the ticket is one of the travelers present.

It's pretty rare in my experience for DB staff to actually check identification for regular tickets(the DeutschlandTicket is another story), but nevertheless they have the right to and people have been caught out before when say buying a ticket for themselves intending to travel alone and then later giving it to someone else without first changing the details.

No, I'm using the DB Navigator as well

You don't have to indeed, that option "book for another person" is to book for someone else when you are not travelling yourself. In your case you just need a ticket for two persons. You'll get one ticket indeed, but it will say "2 erwachsene" somewhere at the top.
By the way, even when I select "buy for another person" there is no field for date of birth...

Interesting re d.o.b. field. Perhaps it's an operating system thing? Yes Tages Ticket Plus is the way to go. Thank you so much for bearing with me on this one. It is very much so appreciated!!

Careful, this is not true.
Electronic tickets (for long-distance trains) are always tied to a specific person.
The conductor may elect to ask for your ID.

If electronic tickets were not tied a specific person, you would see a huge online marketplace to sell cheap train tickets.

All that matters is that the person named on the ticket is one of the travelers present.
That is true.
