What's the cheapest option for an off-peak single from Glasgow to Edinburgh via Alloa, Stirling and Falkirk? £7.70 and £8.45 for off-peak singles for Glasgow Queen Street to Alloa and Alloa to Edinburgh with a 16-25 railcard comes to £16.15; is there a cheaper option? I also want to take some buses in Falkirk so I think PlusBus would be the cheapest option (£2.45 for a total of £18.60); could I ask for a PlusBus ticket with an Alloa to Edinburgh one or would I need to split the ticket at Falkirk?

@A S Leib. Is travel all on the same day? Glasgow Queen Street to Alloa would be £7.75 for an Off Peak Day Return with 16-25 railcard discount. On the way back, you're good as far as Larbert. From there, Larbert to Edinburgh would be £6.30 for an Anytime Day Single, again with 16-25 railcard discount. Larbert PlusBus is possible for an extra £2.45 and I think it can be issued as the ticket's origin and it covers the exact same bus area as Falkirk PlusBus. Total £16.50. Anyone agree/disagree with the above?

All on the same day, so that works, thank you.

There are super off-peak options as well, but that's about it. Definitely cheaper than getting an Edinburgh-Alloa return and joining that up with a Glasgow-Larbert single.
