Have seen GA have been recruiting for months now from quite a few depots but the wage looks seriously poor.

Do they get enhancements to boost there salary for example Sundays outside and London weighting etc?

52k for qualified driver seems ridiculously low.

Thanks

Compared to whom/what? I'm sure many people would jump at the chance to earn £52K...

In comparison to other tocs they are low paid. Pointless stating people would would jump at it.. this is for QUALIFIED drivers not other industry workers. Id jump at the chance to be a pro footballer and earn 110k a month.. but aint happening

They do have Sundays outside which will boost the wage, but I don’t believe there’s any London weighting on top of that salary.

Sundays are outside the working week & as far as I’m aware, London based drivers get a London allowance. Harmonisation between the 3 ex-companies has been tried once in 2005 then again in 2019 (the latter offering a better headline salary) but rejected on both occasions.

How much would Sunday's equate to approximately a year would you have a rough estimate at?
I do as many as I can as hate Sundays so happy to work. I couldn’t put a figure on it though sorry. It’s roughly £300 a shift.

Thanks, how many Sundays are you rostered usually? Rather than trying to work as many as possible. And is that £300 pre or post tax?

That’s before tax & for Anglia drivers. So in my 32 week roster I have 11 rostered Sundays & 10 *Sundays. The latter are within a long weekend & you’ll get any shift within your availability times. You can also make yourself unavailable for these if you wish. The rostered Sundays can only be taken off cover permitting.

Great thanks for the info, so fair to say that adds 6-8k to the base salary then give or take. However id imagine this isn't pensionable?

No, I’m pretty sure it isn’t. You’re most welcome.

No location allowances at any great eastern depots. 12/13 booked Sundays a year average. If you do those and booked bank holidays 5/6k extra I’d say. Attendance allowance every 8 weeks for not being sick couple hundred £. Adds up to near enough 60k the crux of it is all the extras are non pensionable.

My record is 11 consecutive Sundays thanks to much declined leave & either hours off or being booked off with pay on the Monday. Sadly with the current strike action, many are now working their booked Sundays who often dont normally.

Lol! For reasons unknown I can’t seem to work out how to send a DM. It doesn’t give me the option. I suspect it’s because I’ve been a long time lurker and no posts!! I’m not usually technologically challenged….

Compare to the likes of c2c on 68k freight firms 60-65k, London overground 60+

Greater anglia and South Eastern are extremely poorly paid compare to the rest

Thanks all for the replys

Many of those live in London or higher expense areas. It's not bad for rural Norfolk. Money isnt everything after all. Also of note is that our highest paid GA driver more than doubled that £52k salary in 2019/2020.

You need a minimum number of posts (5?). Once you have that just tap on the person’s name and choose “start conversation”.

I live in Essex currently working for a FOC but want to try pass work but obviously am not willing to take a pay cut as significant as that. Just wanted to round up what it would work out annually with Sunday payments and London payment etc do you know an average figure of salary?

I honestly don’t. I’m usually in the £65-70k bracket but then I don’t try too hard but do get DI allowance and Stadler HGD testing enhancements to my pay.

Still takes the micky when you have cambridge depot with gtr drivers on about 10k more then Ga as well as cross country on significantly more.

See your point. Don’t think GTR accept GA drivers anymore. I remember a meeting back in 2017 about GA haemorrhaging drivers to FCC.

Exactly the same story at Southeastern depots co-located with GTR.

It would be prudent to look into the T&Cs in addition to the salary. The salary doesn’t tell the full story as to what you might actually earn in a year.
