On this occasion I will arrange a full refund of your rail ticket as a one off gesture of goodwill. I will arrange to send £26.30 by cashable vouchers which can be exchanged for payment onto a debit card at one of our ticket offices.

This is new!? Only onto Debit Card? When did that change for GTR?

Unless something has changed they usually exchange the voucher for cash. This might be a typing error on the part of GTR. However if it does end up being put back onto your debit card by the booking office at least you will still receive the money. A strange way of doing it though.

When you get to the booking office I would simply ask to cash the voucher and not complicate things with even mentioning a debit card. Hopefully they will then just give you the hard cash. I have occasionally been asked to show the cover letter that came with the voucher too when cashing a RTV at a GTR booking office (but not every time).

Thats what I thought, I can only think that if it is true - they have changed it due to COVID.
I will see what they come back with when I go.

They can indeed issue debit card payments for cashable vouchers (I’ve had one myself at Emsworth!) but you should be able to get it as cash as well if you like.
