Does anyone know if the 769 utilised the third rail during yesterday's test? As I was at Wokingham as it crossed back onto the electric part and expected the engines to cut out as it passed through but they didn't. I do know from spotting the Northern ones that the engines take a while before they fully cut off during the changeover, so I imagine if I'd gone to Winnersh it would have been in electric mode.

I think at the moment they were more interested in checking gauging. I know they have put a unit into the swr bays at Reading recently to check the DC system though.

Is there an up to date list showing the progress of the GWR 319/769 conversions. I remember seeing one, somewhere, a few months ago. Thanks in advance for any information.

New platform markings have turned up at Blackwater and Farnborough, including a neat scheme of zones. Intriguingly, everything is designed around 6 sets of doors opening. Maybe someone didn't get the memo about 769s replacing the Turbos?

Even though 769s are due to replace Turbos, it isn't going to happen that quickly. There may well be a short term need to ensure people queue around the doors of Turbos in an orderly fashion as numbers of passengers grow.

Will they have first class? And/or a trolley?
From what I’ve seen, it’s the same scenario as Northern’s 769s in that first class seating is retained, but the standard moquette is used and it’s declassified.

Has the seating capacity of these units changed during their morph from 319s?
I believe so. From what I could see from the platform the other day the areas of 2+2 seating the units had as 319/4s have been changed back to 3+2.

They've been fitted with additional luggage stacks as well for the Gatwick routes (I think 4 per carriage)

They’ll have first class for the north downs I understand in a similar way first class was reclassified back (having been declassified previously) on 165/3 cars for this route.

GwR Stock Facilities booklet says they have 12 first class seats behind one cab in 2+1 configuration

On GWR - surely not?! A pencil-thin silver line that's all-but-invisble must surely be better.
They do, somewhat surprisingly, seem to have learnt that a yellow stripe is better. I would be interested to know if the recent changes are TOC or DfT / PRM led, a few of the recent returnee's from Doncaster (HST) have the newer signage and SWR style 'flags' which do look a lot better.

Today's test run. 769943 appeared to be running without tail-lights, at least on the outbound run, with both legs of the working seen here near Betchworth.

Saw it on my morning walk heading up to Redhill - couldn't hear the engines so may have been on third rail (expect not though as it is a long descent) and then again at Reigate on return
