I have just applied for a gate line job at Taunton, and passed the first online assessment, which was, what is most appropriate thing to do, and least appropriate, in various situations, so what are my chances of being in top scoring bracket, to get through to next stage, if they have large number of applications?. The job vacancy ends 20th June, so how long before know if got to the next stage? Then how long before hear anything else? How long can whole process take, To getting job offer? And how hard will it be to get this position?

Working on the railways, as always been what i have wanted to do as my career, but for various reasons, not gone for it, partly as thought it hard to get into, and im not an academic or highly qualified person, and all my jobs pretty much been van driving etc, so not really relevant to the railways, so having landed with this chance, I really want this to work out for me. Im happy start at bottom rung etc, despite being 49. And will just be very happy to have job on the railways, and will be very hard working and enthusiastic about the job, so what are the best things to do, to increase my chances of getting this position? Im willing to do, what it takes to achieve this.

It can be anywhere from days to months to be totally honest.

Make sure you understand the requirements of the role, read up a bit on GWR to show you know the company, have a think about times you've shown good customer service, things like that.

Good luck with your application.

Some people on here(myself included) spend months/years trying to get on the railway. I am into my 20th + application for various roles at different train companies. Sometimes you hear within 2-3 days if you have been successful to go to the next stage.Sometimes you hear before the job closed and sometimes not at all. They obviously look at many things in your application, like age, location, experience etc.
Good luck.
