Wikipedia states that
In October 2014, plans were submitted to bring back an old platform into use to create 3 platforms.[6] The signal box and signals would also be updated meaning more services can run via the new platform at Halifax station.

Currently platform 3, the only remaining old platform that could be revived with relative ease, is mostly occupied by an extension of Eureka! and as far as I can tell it just wouldn't be possible to have both.

Does anyone know what's likely to happen here? Do Eureka let that space or own it? If they own it, what are the chances of this actually coming off?

The Bradford end of the platform that is occupied by Eureka could probably hold 4x20m/3x23m. Not sure if there's likelihood of a platform of such length becoming a hindrance in the next 30-40 years! It could presumably still be a through platform (as opposed to a Bradford facing bay) as long as the space occupied by Eureka is not part of the working platform- there appears to be clearance for a track alongside the existing down line at least to the pointwork associated with the turnback siding beyond the Manchester end of the station. A platform there would be rather exposed to the elements though!
