Hi all,

I hope this is allowed, I am travelling to Heathrow in October and I am planning on using the Heathrow Express to get in to central London.

I have a TOC card which I have been advised can be used to purchase HE tickets at a priv rate on the day of arrival at Heathrow booking office.

Can anyone advise of how much the priv rate is, or what percentage of discount, etc, you get with the TOC card?

TIA

Although there is no Ticket office at Heathrow and there often is no chance to buy a ticket at Heathrow.

In those instances and because the gateline staff are often less than helpful I get a transfer ticket and buy on board or at Paddington.

What happened to the T5 ticket desk?

Thanks, wasn’t sure if it would have been as much as that so that’s good to know .

The half-hourly stopping train service Heathrow Airport to Paddington is a lot cheaper. It's operated by TfL Rail and as far as I know counts as a National rail service so you can get the 75% discount. Br. Fares has a priv Standard Day Single NOT HEATHROW EXPRESS at £2.80.

That just leaves the problem of purchasing the ticket - is there really no ticket office at Heathrow Airport? I suppose you could buy it in advance from another National Rail station though.

If you're leaving from Heathrow T5, on arrivals level there's a row of ticket machines opposite the M&S. If there's a HeX staff there, they can sell you a Priv rate ticket, either a single or return.

If you're leaving from Heathrow T2&3, in the rail station just before the ticket barriers there's a collection of ticket machines. If there's a HeX staff there, they can sell you a Priv ticket.

If there's no staff at either locations, grab a Free Transfer Ticket (blue ticket) and then jump onboard HeX. All trains are covered by a member of staff and carry ticket machines, and they'll be happy to sell you a ticket.

If for some reason there isn't a member of staff onboard, when you arrive at Paddington there's a Fares to Pay booth adjacent to Platform 5 where you can buy your Priv rate ticket.

Prior to the pandemic I have always been able to buy Priv HEX tickets at York in advance, so presumably, any national rail ticket office could do them (if they want to!)

Can you not just buy a York to Heathrow Airport priv?

Thank you for all of your replies. I am in Glasgow, would there be any way for me to purchase HeX tickets before I leave, which would be the preferred option as don’t want to have the extra hassle once I get to Heathrow. I did message HeX and they said I could purchase from a member of staff at Heathrow, but in the event there is no one there, where would I get a blue transfer ticket?

Never been to London before, so just getting myself confused about it all as different process to what I have used for priv tickets before.

I am travelling with a family member who will be purchasing a normal advance return ticket before we travel.

There is no reason why any booking office in Glasgow shouldn't be able to issue a ticket from Heathrow Rail to London Paddington. The only place I wouldn't try would be the internal Scottish travel only office at Glasgow Central.

Just wanted to update everyone, I managed to book my priv-rate HEX tickets at Glasgow Central :D. So one less thing to do once I get to London. Thanks to all who posted for the advice.
