with the sunday strikes on avanti, could anyone help me with using an alternative route to manchester picadilly on sunday 26th January, from Tadworth, please? I'm currently looking at travelling to Sheffield then onto Manchester - is the best alternative?

Looking at a journey planner, if you want to travel from London to Manchester on that day and avoid Avanti your two best options seem to be.

EMR from St pancras to sheffield and then EMR/TPE to Manchester.

LNR from Euston to stafford then Crosscountry to manchester.

Strikes don't nessacerally mean zero services, both of the non-avanti alternatives I mentioned are significantly slower than Avanti, so if Avanti are running anything to Manchester, Crewe, Stafford or Stoke ir probablly makes sense to take it.

The strikes for the next two Sundays have been called off so depending on whether they reinstate a full service you may be able to take your original intended route

Strikes planned by workers on Avanti West Coast over the next two Sundays have been called off.

The union announced that strikes planned for the next two Sundays have been suspended to allow intensive talks to take place following recent approaches by Avanti.

Future strikes are still in place.

One other possibility might be London Marylebone->Leamington Spa (with Chiltern) and change there for an XC service onward to Manchester Piccadilly.

Think I'm right in saying that there's nothing much running (if indeed anything) on the ECML out of London Kings Cross on Sunday 26th January 2025, this due to planned engineering work, which likely precludes alternative journey options via Doncaster or Leeds.

And if the ECML is out the MML is likely to be extremely busy..........

Sorry

EMR - East Midlands railway (operator of the Midland Mainline, and also the Liverpool to Norwich services)
TPE - Transpennie express
LNR - London Northwestern railway (operator of local/semi-fast services on the west coast mainline)
XC - Crosscountry
ECML - East coast mainline.
MML - Midland main line.
