Just an odd question for curiosity (although the amounts are trivial)
On Friday a friend and I are visiting Hertford, travelling from Tottenham Hale. As we both have a freedom pass we have checked off peak day return fares from boundary zone 6 and see that there are two alternatives.
On BR fares there is a price of £8.80 set by Greater Anglia route any permitted, and also a fare of £5.90 to Hertford Stations route any permitted set by Thameslink.
On the face of it the cheaper Thameslink ticket would be valid but is this a misreading?

The Greater Anglia fare is to Hertford East specifically. I can't see anything wrong with buying the cheaper fare to Hertford Stations group though.

If you have a bit of time and would like to save money you can use your freedom pass all the way to Cheshunt if you use London Overground services. You can then touch in with a normal Oyster and pay £1.70 off-peak single for Cheshunt to Hertford East. The peak fare is £2.90 if touching in between 0630-0930 or 1600-1900.
