I have just read a post on the RMWeb Prototype forum showing an 802 unit at Hessle Road Signal Box on 12th April this year on a crew training run.The post states that this is in preparation for 802 units to be introduced on the TPE Hull service later this year. Does anyone have any more information on the matter?

Yes, currently Piccadilly crew are being trained on 802's and they will be going to Hull from December I think.

Driver training is still continuing apace most weekdays. Today was the turn of 802 218 running from Leeds to Hull via Garforth (5K47). Two round trips took place (5K50 and 5K53) running from Hull - Garforth - Leeds - Castleford - Hull before return to Leeds (5K56). I guess the Castleford section is included to cover any diversion route during TPU infrastructure work.

Hull drivers sign it already - the path probably makes most of not having to tie up a platform at Leeds whilst they change ends etc.

Does that mean the Cleethorpes service will be going back to Manchester Airport?

Cleethorpes continuing to Liverpool over Cheshire lines. The hull-liverpool will be a second path per hour over the chat moss.

Also increases the duration of their handling. Hull to Leeds direct is basically 1 hour. I think they have to do 20 hours of handling, so the longer the duration the quicker it takes to sign it.

I guess it makes sense in the event of disruption that both Liverpool (via Chat Moss) terminators can be interchanged if the stock used is the same.
I would guess that Liverpool to Hull utilises 6 diagrams and Liverpool to Newcastle would be 7. Allocate two more for the Newcastle - Edinburgh shuttles takes you to 15 diagrams in total from 19 class 802s.

Not forgetting the WCML 802 diagram as well.

It was reported that it's potentially three Hull diagrams going to 802's, presumably the current six car 185 diagrams. I assume the Scarborough 802 diagram will end and the Newcastle - Liverpool service should return to it's previous faster timings which required one less so it's likely there will be one extra 802 diagram giving 13 as per summer 2023, there may be more units used for training.

One benefit is that the six car 185's to Hull currently get split off peak to 3 cars so the 802's should provide some extra capacity off peak particularly between Leeds / Manchester.

Details of the TPE December 2024 timetable can now be searched on RTT. The fast hourly service between Liverpool and Hull is restored, initially with a mixture of 802’s and 185’s allocated to the service in an alternating pattern.
