The photos in the OP appear to show recessed doors, therefore almost certainly pocketed, as with the 395 and SET.

That's "WOULD be manufactured". Not going to be built anywhere if they don't land any orders!

I'm surprised no one has picked up on this, but cccording to the IRJ:

"Hitachi plans to build a prototype AT200 train and has offered the train to companies bidding for the new Scotrail franchise"

The photos in the OP appear to show recessed doors, therefore almost certainly pocketed, as with the 395 and SET.

I'm not so sure, according to Roger Ford on twitter "Hitachi's new AT200 EMU enters the 21st Century with European electric powered sliding plug doors. Amazing!"

The pictures of the mock up show one 'vehicle' with pocket doors and one with plug - so I guess both are available at the customers option

Very nice photos. There are some nice things in there it seems, but the obvious difference to other demonstrations is that these are a mish mash of ideas, to give ROSCOs/TOCs ideas - rather than a specific set up that's a sign of what is actually going to be built.

I think it's perhaps the use of some of the colours that makes me feel the designs are very old.

60ish 6-car, 2+2, 1/3 2/3 plug doors, 110mph capable AT200 for the next TPE franchise please with barrow, middlesborough and maybe Scarborough wired by the time the final units are delivered.

Think I agree. Closest thing you get to that orange tone these days is the "indecisive" pink on a refurbished class 315. Don't think I was alive last time that colour would've looked good on a train...

For some reason it bugs me that the mockup classes are AT100 metro and AT200 commuter, when the actual products on offer are AT100 commuter and AT200 regional. It just seems muddled.

They're a good candidate, but please not those seats. Or those Fainsa ones currently favoured by Bombardier. At least not on the Newcastle/Scotland routes, although I'd wager only one uniform design of EMU will grace the franchise. In short, I am not hopeful.

Perhaps they could use the 'first' seat design in standard - I mean, they're the same width and thickness, albeit with the semblance of a headrest and reservation screens distinguishing the two designs. The illusion of comfort might soften the blow...

Even a basic recline lever might make those things more bearable in standard, but alas it's not customary over here, and is reserved for those paying the necessary premium.
