Surprised at 20118 being flogged. That always seemed to be on LU transfers.

I don't think 118 has been out on a job for close on a year, 132 was probably early/mid part of last year, 901 the erstwhile partner of 118 hasn't been used either but isn't on the for sale list, to my mind it'll be interesting to see how many viewings there are of the five ETH fitted 47s

How much would that lot fetch? (Including 200 tons of spares).

Please note: Any reply from anyone employed by HNRC will be most welcome (but note I fall into at least one of the banned categories!)

A lot above scrap value (rather than just above) is clearly what they think they are worth!

I am not sure you are not even allowed to reply with that opinion.... Martyn might get into bother....
It's a strange advert. But I do understand the sentiment behind the messages. There are enough people out there who are happy to take up your time with enquiries but, realistically, are never going to purchase anything even at bargain basement (sub scrap value) prices. "No timewasters please" would be the normal way of doing it. Perhaps that has been tried previously but the message didn't get through!

Having a 'burner phone' for this auction would be one answer - it's cheap enough to get a basic non-smart phone and Giff Gaff (perhaps others too) give out sim cards like sweets. Similarly it's easy to set up a specific email address. Then you can ignore the phone, or not respond to emails, without impacting the rest of your business. Perhaps I'll register MartynHNRCsalesonly@gmail before anyone else!

A bit like a bookshop in Hawes (North Yorkshire) who charged people '50p to come in and browse' which made the national papers a while back.

I guess there is a balance to be struck, but the Ferocious Dog tone of the ad lacks humour, which would have helped the message I think. Having been on both sides of this proverbial fence, I have great respect for the indulgence provided when poring over old boilers (well, ETH 47s) and understand the tolerance required when dealing with keenly naive would be saviours (of basket-case Class 50s)!

Lots of interesting stuff there, and should generate plenty of cash for Mr Needle. I'm sure preserved railways might snap up the class 02's and 20's as they are light, small and more fuel efficient than larger loco's, but who would want the 47's? LSL have plenty, maybe WCRC?

I can understand the tone of the advert, there are plenty of enthusiastic rail types that will talk a good game but realistically not have the cash so are just time wasting, but perhaps it could have been put slightly less bluntly. You'd have to really want one of those loco's to tolerate dealing with someone with an attitude like that.

love that advert. Love the bluntness. Time wasters and fantasists are the bane of people trying to sell anything so I can absolutely appreciate thier stance. Trust me. I am trying to sell our van at present. The world is full of utter balloons.

The anti spotter stance though: chefs kiss ( as the kids say!)
