How do I find out more about 'unusual' trains passing my local station ?

I am always amazed to see on t'internet so many folks on station platforms when come kind of 'fancy / unusual' train passes by.

I wonder how they get the information.

I've just noticed on one of the websites (see image) one such train departing from Newcastle shortly. Sadly I am too far away to go and see if, assuming it was worth seeing in the first place.

How do I get details please ?

The best thing to do would be to look ahead on realtime trains, under whatever location you can get to. Use the filters and detailed options for better quality information.

and if you can't make sense of what you see, search again, but with "Actual" ordering selected. Especially for freight and other trains which might be hours ahead or behind time!
